Abstract

The possibility of using low-grade heat as part of thermal power plants (TPPs) based on the use of vapor-compression heat pumps (VHPs) was considered to improve the efficiency of water cooling systems at the inlet to the condenser of steam turbines during the summer period of operating modes. Tishrinskaya TPP (Syria) was chosen to analyze the effectiveness of the use of VHP as part of the operating TPP. The results showed that as a result of the use of a vapor compression heat pump, the productivity of a thermal power plant increases. This happened due to an increase in the power unit's capacity due to the abolition of steam extraction from the turbine to the heater LPH No. 7 and a decrease in the temperature of the water entering the condenser. Consequently, the efficiency of the thermal installation has also increased and the fuel consumption in the boiler has decreased, which made it possible to increase the efficiency of the power plant as a whole. The use of the evaporative circuit of the heat pump on the inlet and outlet circulation lines of the service water supply system led to a decrease in the temperature of the water at the condenser inlet by 0.2°C and, consequently, to a decrease in the pressure in the turbine condenser by 0.0011 kgf/cm2 and an increase in the capacity of the energy unit at 209 kW. This made it possible to reduce the temperature of the return circulation water discharged into the reservoir and reduces the environmental burden on the environment as a whole, and the use of the heat pump condensing circuit in the regenerative system cycle made it possible to increase the power unit's capacity by 0.216% and increase the efficiency of the power station by 0.213%.
